Day 26 - Fabulous Las Vegas..Valley of Fire

We are in Las Vegas today and tomorrow. Phil did a Zoom call early this morning to be recertified as a girls' lacrosse referee. When we get back to NY he plans to get back into refereeing. By mid morning we were on our way to the Valley of Fire state park, less than 1 hour north of Las Vegas. It is an unusual park with rocks formed from mud that was pushed up through the earth's crust over millions of years and solidified into rock over time.
The rocks clearly show the ripples of mud as they flowed downward and the red and white striations resulting from the various minerals that were absorbed. You can't visit much of this park in the summer because the temperatures are too hot on the rocks. We hiked around most of the park.

Long horn sheep freely roam the park

We got a close up shot of these sheep basking on the rocks
This is rock that Phil is standing on!

The sky is so blue these sheep look like a postcard!

These rocks are very solid, but this pile looks like large elephants droppings 😁

Sandy took this awesome picture of Phil from inside a hole in the rocks

Sandy in the rock cavity where she took the picture of Phil

Aren't these striations in the rocks cool?

The rock looks like it is flowing, but it's solid rock!

Sandy resting. You can see the striations in the rocks

Sandy ready to fly off one of these beautiful rocks

There are smooth cavities in the rocks that you can actually lie down in.
